My name is Gina and here is a little more insight about myself and my background in Events.
When I was made redundant in 2006 from an office management role in Construction, due to the recession that hit hard, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as everything became as a shock. At the same time my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour. 3 months later down the line, I was head hunted for an apprenticeship for a local council in Hertfordshire, as I was recognised for my social, management, leadership and organisation skills.
I applied for the apprenticeship as I had nothing to loose but not realising it be like the X Factor. There was 100 applicants that applied and only one place for the Events department. All 100 applicants including myself had to do numerous exams, tests, role plays, create an event for a presentation to become a winner at the end! I was so nervous, but excited to see what I got myself into. I honestly thought I wouldn't win a place with so many applicants.
Three days later I received a phone call saying I have won myself an interview as I been short listed. I had to take my event idea and presentation and present it to a panel of 12 council staff. After the presentation they asked me to leave the room and they will call me in when they have made a hiring decision. I was so happy I won the Apprenticeship in a Business Administration and Event Planning and Organisation the role began 3 months later. During the 3 months gap, I got into jewellery and clay making and became a stall holder selling my items at various events and markets, I loved meeting people and gaining that experience as a stall holder.
At the end of my apprenticeship there was an award ceremony at the Harry Potters Studio, Leavesden where I won an award of the best apprenticeship of the year in events!
I was then in charge of putting big town centre events, community events, Christmas markets, family fun days, business networking events, and the town centre general and farmers market.
The role helped me gain my full confidence, knowledge, expertise , qualifications, and built my future as an Events Business. Fantasia Events was born.
